Manage to recruit a fifth colonist (and I'm still outnumbered almost two to one) just as the siege starts building, go to bust up the siege, and, obviously, everyone gets heavily injured because colonists can never, ever shoot worth a damn. Three events in a row, it's pirate attacks. Every enemy I bring down dies, so no recruitment options there. Only recruit that joins up is, naturally, bitchy and borderline-useless for skills, so they contribute little and are constantly on the verge of a breakdown. The design fucking sucks.ĭoing alright with a colony of three for about an hour or so. Gave this game a second chance for the fifth or sixth time, I'm just flat done with it. They could even link a pool of events to character traits, so if your "founding fathers" are a sex slave, a ex-assassin and a pop star you might end up with some kind of death worshipping nudist beach. Even if it was mostly cosmetic, via posts in a "Culture" tab or only gave a few +1's to existing stuff like work rate. With maybe a higher or lower likelihood of more gay characters arriving depending on your colony's confirmed beliefs.Įventually with enough events, it would feel like you've got a really unique society with views as weird, sinister or radical as you please. The colonists are gossiping about Rene and Sara, there opinion is undecided: Do you want to sway the vote?ĭepending on what you choose, all straight colonists thereafter will have a +2, 0, or -5 opinion on characters with the gay trait.

Rather than name it yourself, you'd get options, but ultimately the characters name the place and you've got to live with it.

You've been here a while, so the colonists are thinking of naming the place: Fucksville, Lonestar, Glamrock. I think the only thing I'd want to make this game more interesting is, perhaps, random social events turning up and allowing the player a say in what goes down. It's not even that the characters are more competent! They're not! I don't know what is vastly different between this and Dwarf Fortress, but in DF I would plan meticulously, from what to bring to the location, but in this game I just take a random roll and pick somewhere interesting on the map.
